MAHABUBNAGAR: Panchayat Raj and Rural Development principal secretary K. Raju has called upon the officers to identify labour-oriented works under National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS) that should continue over a period of coming six months. He was addressing a specially convened meeting of MPDOs and programme officers here on Friday. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Raju said the MPDOs have to shoulder the responsibility of providing at least 100 days' employment to each labour family or otherwise give unemployment allowances. Mr. Raju said that as per the official report, over five lakh families have demanded work, of which only 2.07 lakh families were provided work. District Collector V. Usha Rani said the scheme gained momentum in the district during July and October and thereafter due to the agriculture season, it was going slow.
