NEW DELHI: The R.K. Raghavan committee, formed to suggest a solution to end ragging on the campus, will hold public discussions in Delhi, Chennai, Bhopal, Patna, Kochi, Guwahati, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Pune. It has also invited suggestions from the public. The committee, headed by the former CBI Director, was formed by the Union Human Resource Development Ministry, acting on a Supreme Court order in the case of University of Kerala vs. the Council of Principals. The other members are the Indian Institute of Technology (Kanpur) Director S.G. Dhande, the Dean of the Maulana Azad Medical College (New Delhi) A.K. Agarwal, Ramjas College (New Delhi) principal Rajendra Prasad, and Joint Secretary in the HRD Ministry Sunil Kumar. Besides, the Vice-Chancellor of the SNDT Women's University (Mumbai) Chandra Krishnamurthy and the former Vice-Chancellor of Madras University S. Sathikh have been co-opted as members. The committee has been asked to explore means and methods for preventing ragging, and suggest possible action that can be taken against those who indulge in the practice. Suggestions can be emailed to ragging.edu@nic.in or sent to the Director (Higher Education) in the Ministry.
