CHENNAI: The presence of mind displayed by Surjit Singh Barnala, Governor and Chancellor of Tamil Nadu Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, at the university's convocation on Friday saved the authorities from a major embarrassment. Even as the function began, around 200 students gathered on the corridors of Kalaivanar Arangam, the venue. They were restless and wanted to receive their degree certificates only from the Governor-Chancellor whereas the university had planned to have these distributed through the deans concerned in view of lack of time. Sensing the students' feelings, the Governor announced that he would give away the certificates to all the students. But, on one condition: the students should receive the certificates with a smile. The Governor received a loud applause.
