Held for murder, auto-theft cases

NEW DELHI: Two men allegedly involved in several cases of murder and auto-theft have been arrested by the South Delhi police.

Acting on a tip-off, the police laid a trap in C block of Defence Colony and intercepted two young men on a motorcycle. The duo allegedly fired at the police team and tried to flee. However, both were overpowered. During interrogation, one of the accused, Mobin, purportedly confessed to his involvement in over a dozen cases of dacoity, murder, attempt to murder and chain snatching. He is also an accused in the Videocon Tower robbery case and had jumped bail.

Murder case solved

NEW DELHI: With the arrest of three persons, the North-West Delhi police on Friday claimed to have solved a murder case reported this past week.

According to the police, prime accused Jasbir Singh, who is the brother-in-law of the deceased, Devender Singh, was roughed up by the latter over a family dispute. To avenge his humiliation, Jasbir killed Devender with the help of his two friends and then dumped the body into a canal in Haryana.

Pirated CDs seized

New Delhi: Police on Friday seized 76 pirated CDs, 603 MP3s and 11 DVDs from a shop in East Delhi and arrested one person in this connection. Police said they made the seizure during a raid at a shop in Shahdara area and arrested the owner.

Lifer for kidnapping

New Delhi: A Delhi Court on Friday sentenced a 25-year-old man to life imprisonment for kidnapping a nine-year-old boy for a ransom of Rs 4 lakhs two years ago. Additional Sessions Judge Rajender Kumar also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on the convict Brijesh Kumar Gautam for kidnapping Vijay. Brijesh kidnapped Vijay on November 7, 2004 from outside his residence in East Delhi and took him to Allahabad.
