BANGALORE: Following a rapid decline in the registration of properties on account of ambiguities in the provisions of the Karnataka Land Revenue (Amendment) Ordinance, 2006, the State Government has sought the opinion of the Law Department on the matter. According to sources in the Revenue Department, despite a couple of meetings held so far, senior officials of the Stamps and Registration Department are unable to come to a consensus. The sources said that Inspector-General of Registration Krishnappa and other officials of the department met officials of the Law Department on Friday to discuss the matter. Though the discussions revolved around properties that could be registered and those on which a fine had to be levied, a consensus could not be arrived at. The confusion was likely to be cleared in a couple of days, the sources said. A sub-registrar, who requested anonymity, told The Hindu that they were awaiting a clarification from the Government on the issue. "Though we are registering documents that are valid, it amounts to only 10 per cent of what we were registering earlier."
