Gandhi book festival draws crowds

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Gandhi Book festival organised as part of the ongoing Khadi Fest, on the LMS grounds, is proving to be an attraction for adults and children alike.

According to a press note issued by the Thiruvananthapuram District Sarvodaya Mandalam, books worth Rs.20,000 were sold during the past week at the festival.

While more than 200 copies of Gandhiji's autobiography priced at Rs.30 were sold, the children's version priced at Rs.10 sold more than 300 copies.

Among those who came to purchase books on Gandhiji were actors Madhu, Madhupal, former Minister M.M. Hassan and BJP leader B.K. Sekhar.

A special feature of the book festival is the collection of Gandhian literature for children and books on the `puranas.'

A one-volume compendium of Gandhian literature comes at Rs.200.

Apart from this there are books on naturopathy, yoga, commentaries on The Gita, Gandhiji's talks on The Gita and those featuring, Gandhiji's thoughts on various issues.

In addition to the books, the festival also offers for sale pictures of Gandhiji, cassettes containing Gandhian songs, CDs containing Gandhiji's biography and greeting cards sporting Gandhian slogans and messages, the press note added.
