Busy giving shape to 100-foot sand sculpture of Santa Claus

BHUBANESWAR: Internationally acclaimed sand sculptor Sudarsan Patnaik is set to score a world record on Sunday in his hometown of Puri.

Sudarsan, winner of the first prize at the last Berlin international sand sculpture competition, is busy sculpting a 100-foot long Santa Claus since Friday on the beach of this holy town that he intends to present as his Christmas gift to the world.

Assisted by 15 of his disciples, including seven girls, he is designing the 15-foot high image that would require about 1000 tones of sand. ``This would fetch us a world record in the Limca Book of Records in their next edition,'' claimed Sudarsan, who has been instrumental in getting global recognition for this 700-year-old art tradition of Puri.

``I have checked with the Limca Book of Records officials and have learnt that no such sand sculpture has ever been erected anywhere in the world,'' said an ecstatic Sudarsan.
