Coimbatore: Coimbatore zone of the Transport Department conducted a drive against excess fare collection and violation of rules by omni bus operators on Friday night. Deputy Transport Commissioner, Coimbatore, T. Gunasekaran said the dusk-to-dawn drive was conducted on all arterial roads in Coimbatore, Erode and the Nilgiris districts by the respective Regional Transport Officers and Motor Vehicle Inspectors. The drive was conducted following complaints of omni bus operators violating rules and collecting excess fare by selling tickets at premium rates capitalising on the festival rush, he said.
Tax arrears
During the drive, 137 omni buses were checked and 21 cases booked for various violations. Tax and tax arrears amounting to Rs. 1,62,885 were realised from the bus operators. In the event of any violation and excess fare collection the public has been requested to call the Deputy Transport Commissioner's office at 95422-2214441, Regional Transport Officers at 2212520 (Coimbatore South), 2218449 (North), 95421-2473545 (Tirupur), 954259-2215159 (Pollachi), 954254-226330 (Mettuppalayam), 95424-2271111 (Erode), 954285-222922 (Gobichettipalayam) and 95423-2443950 (Udhagamandalam). The drive would be sustained and intensified across the zone, Mr. Gunasekaran said.
