Gopalaswami reviews photo poll roll work
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI:
Chief Election Commissioner N. Gopalaswami reviewed the progress of the work relating to preparation of district-wise and Assembly segment-wise photo electoral rolls at a meeting here on Saturday.
Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Naresh Gupta, Joint CEO V. Senthilkumar and Officer on Special Duty S. Bragada were present at the meeting.
"The current status is that the total availability of images for the ongoing photo electoral roll programme has reached 80 per cent in the State," Mr. Gupta said. However, Chennai, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Tiruvannamalai, Coimbatore, Villupuram, Dharmapuri, Sivaganga and Tuticorin districts still had a long way to go in terms of number and percentage of images to be captured, he added.
A "serious problem" was non-availability of voters in some areas when the staff went for photographing them, he said, adding that it would have to be enquired whether these people had shifted and ceased to be ordinarily residents of the area where they were currently registered.
