Release of grants due to the municipal corporation sought

KURNOOL: Leaders of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) on Saturday opposed the G.O. No. 427, which prompted enhancement of property tax from 100 to 150 per cent.

The party conducted a seminar here, which was addressed by MLA M.A. Gafoor, floor leader Pulla Reddy, City secretary K. Prabhakar Reddy, party leader Narasimhaiah and corporators.

They urged the Government to release grants due to the Municipal Corporation immediately in order to save the civic body from financial crisis. Also, the leaders wanted the Government to pay Rs. 7 crores property tax arrears of the Government buildings and other establishments. The party threatened to intensify the agitation if the Government did not heed.
