Staff Reporter

ANANTAPUR: Union Minister for Railways Lalu Prasad and Minister of State R. Velu were on a brief visit to Puttaparthi in the district on Saturday. The officials of the South Western Railway zone accompanied them.

After arriving in a special train from Bangalore at Prashanti Nilayaram railway station near Puttaparthi, the two ministers drove straight to Prashanti Nilayam campus and went for darshan of Satya Saibaba.

Special darshan

The two Ministers were given special darshan and were with Saibaba for about half-an-hour.

The two later visited a temple outside Prashanti Nilayam where Saibaba had given his first discourse.

Then they returned to the railway station, planted saplings in front of the guesthouse on the railway station premises and left for Bangalore by the special train.

The Ministers were accompanied by General Manager of South Western Railway Trilokanth Patri and Bangalore Divisional Railway Manager Mahesh Mangal.

Memorandum

In a memorandum submitted to the Railway Minister, Chairman of Satya Sai Urban Development Authority K. Satyanarayana urged him to sanction a new railway line linking Puttaparthi to Bangalore via Kadiri.

The Ministers were received and seen off by Penukonda RDO S.V. Nageswara Rao and others.
