DPC for panchayat raj staff soon

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Panchayat Raj Minister J.C. Diwakar Reddy has promised that the State Government will shortly constitute a Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) to take up promotions of panchayat raj staff.

Inaugurating the general body meeting of the Andhra Pradesh Panchayat Raj Engineers' Association here on Saturday, Mr. Reddy ruled out creation of new posts in the department but promised appointment of junior engineers in the `surplus' category. Replying to a plea by leaders of the association that the vigilance cases booked against panchayat raj officials during the Telugu Desam Government be settled at the earliest, Mr. Reddy said steps were being taken not to harass them. They would be settled in a couple of months.

He added that though the Government was against vigilance cases, wilful mistakes by officials would not be condoned. The Government would also not spare contractors even after recovering damages from them. They would be blacklisted.
