`Decision not politically motivated'

Staff Reporter

KOCHI: Chief Minister V.S. Achuthanandan said here on Saturday that the dissolution of the director board of Kerala State Cooperative Hospital at Pariyaram was not politically motivated.

"They were given six to seven months to make amends, but they were unwilling to change," he said. The statement by CMP leader M.V. Raghavan that the dissolution was politically motivated was against facts, Mr. Achuthanandan told mediapersons after inaugurating the valedictory session of the seventh national conference of the Indian Association of Lawyers here.

Justifies move

Staff Reporter writes from Kannur: Minister for Co-operation G. Sudhakaran justified the dissolution of the governing body of the hospital.

The Minister told reporters that the decision to disband the governing body was lawful. Stating that it was a decision taken by the Registrar of Co-operative Department, Mr. Sudhakaran said the co-operative society controlling the Pariyaram Medical College and hospital should have acted as per rules.

The Co-operative Department had no other option but to dissolve the body, he added.

Mr. Sudhakaran said Mr. Raghavan and the governing body should have resigned in the wake of the loss of quorum in meetings of the body. The governing body was continuing to function despite having lost the quorum, he added.

The Co-operative Department dissolved the administrative body on the ground that it had no quorum. The body should have minimum 13 members to have quorum, officials said.
