Depicting the lives of street children

KOZHIKODE: A drama telling the story of street children who are deprived of their basic rights including clothes, housing and education after having fallen into the hands of mafia pushing children into begging was staged before the students of National Institute of Technology, Calicut (NIT-C) near here on Tuesday. It proved to a different experience for the students of NIT-C.

Drama staged

The drama, `Therumakkalillatha India' (An India without street children), was staged as part of the tour by a street playgroup under Aluva Janashiksha Bhavan. It was staged at NIT-C with the cooperation of Students Council and NSS unit on the campus.

The group will travel from Kasaragod to Kanyakumari staging plays, which stress the message of protection of street children.

A special feature of the play is that more than 10 short-sized people act in it. The script and direction of the play is by Xavier Pulpattu.

E.T.Mohammed Basheer, former Education Minister, inaugurated the district-level tour of the group at NIT-C campus. NIT-C director Dr. G.R.C. Reddy presided over.
