THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister for Law and Ports M. Vijayakumar has denied the allegation that he kept away from the meeting of the Maritime Development Council held in Kochi on Friday. Referring to the reported remark of Union Minister for Shipping T.R. Baalu that Mr. Vijayakumar's absence at the meeting was unfortunate, Mr. Vijayakumar said he did not get an invitation to the meeting. "No courtesy of inviting a State Minister to the meeting had been shown by the Union Ministry of Shipping. That could only be viewed as neglect of the State." In an official release, Mr. Vijayakumar clarified that neither he nor his office received an invitation or phone message from the Union Government. No message was received at the Secretariat as well. The Cochin Port Trust was the host for the meeting. However, none of the procedures to be followed by the Centre were followed. Though the meeting also covered subjects handled by the Chief Minister such as inland navigation, he too did not receive any intimation.
