Tight security irks scribes

Special Correspondent

SHIMOGA: The security in and around the Kuvempu Ranga Mandira here on Saturday was so heavy that even the participants in the seminar on the media held as part of the 73rd Akhila Bharatha Kannada Sahitya Sammelan found it difficult to enter the auditorium.

Expressing his surprise over the restrictions imposed by the police at the main gate of the Ranga Mandira, Editor of "Andolana" of Mysore Rajasekhar Koti said he was not allowed to go inside the auditorium even after he disclosed his identity and after telling them that he was scheduled to take part in the seminar.

He was allowed only after Kannada Sahitya Parishat president Chandrasekhar Patil intervened in the matter. The police restricted the audience to the auditorium in view of the demonstration proposed to be organised by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Akhila Bharaitya Vidyarti Parishad to protest against the participation of journalist Gauri Lankesh in the seminar.

Meanwhile, members of the Karnataka Komu Souharda Vedike, addressing a press conference condemned the demonstration by the ABVP activists on Thursday when Kalkuli Vitthal Hegde was participating in the seminar on the problems of Malnad region.
