HASSAN: For the welfare of people with disabilities, the Government has decided to open self-help sanghas in each taluk in the State, Minister for Women and Child Development H.K. Kumaraswamy has said. He was speaking at an event on disability at the Seer Shivakumar Swamiji Community Hall in Belur, 45 km from Hassan on Friday. The programme was organised by the Belur Angavikalara Abhyudaya Sangha. The Minister felt people with disabilities should not think of their condition as a curse and should take it as a challenge. The opinion among doctors is that marriage with close relations may give result in physical or mental disabilities among the children. He lauded Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy who had great concern for physically disabled persons and in all his janata darshans had expressed his willingness to arrange for jobs for them. The monthly pension of persons with disabilities had been raised from Rs. 50 to Rs. 200 and there was a proposal to enhance it to Rs. 500. They will be provided with bus pass, and be given training for jobs. He promised to sanction a site for the Belur Angavikalara Sangha. Zilla Panchayat vice-president Kamakshi Raju, ZP member Jayanthi Ganesh, Belur taluk panchayat president Sudha Suresh and senior citizen M.S. Paramashivappa were present.
