DU Executive Council election results out

NEW DELHI: The results of elections for the Executive Council and Academic Council of Delhi University were declared on Saturday. In the fiercely contested elections, Rekha Dayal -- a candidate put up by Academics for Action and Development (AAD) for the Executive Council -- won by polling 2,014 votes. Gurmohinder Singh secured the second seat in the Executive Council.

Twenty-six new faces were elected to the Academic Council. They include Veena Aggarwal, Rajiv Kumar Verma, Rajib Ray J. Khuntia and Pankaj Garg.

PNB signs MoU with Nepal bank

NEW DELHI: Punjab National Bank has made a foray into cross-country ATM sharing arrangement with banks in Nepal. An agreement to share their ATM network for their cardholders on either side of the border was executed on Saturday between Punjab National Bank and Everest Bank Ltd., Nepal.

PNB Chairman and Managing Director S. C. Gupta and Everest Bank Chairman B. K. Sreshtha signed the MoU. PNB has an online network of more than 870 ATMs across India. Similarly, PNB cardholders will be able to use the ATMs of participating banks in Nepal.

Mega show on interior design closes today

NEW DELHI: A four-day mega show titled "Inside Outside'' on interior design, furniture and furnishings, building and construction industries comes to an end at Pragati Maidan here on Sunday.

The exhibition will then travel to Ahmedabad (January 4 to 7), Indore (January 12 to 15), Jaipur (January 20 to 24) and Chandigarh (February 8 to 11) before culminating at Pune (February 22 to 25). It has been organised by Business India Exhibitions.

Minor deposes in court

New Delhi: In a unique case of deposition, a Delhi court has recorded statements of a 12-year-old boy, who testified alleging he saw his father kill his mother last year.

Additional Sessions Judge Reena Singh Nag allowed recording of the minor's statements saying, ``I am satisfied that the child is intelligent enough to understand the questions and give rational answers, so let him be examined on oath.''

The boy told the court that his father had killed his mother by stabbing her in the neck with a knife. He said that his parents had had an estranged relationship and were not staying in the same house when the incident happened. He also alleged that his father used to beat up his mother.
