Koraput: A herd of 10 wild elephants has created havoc in the fields of tribal farmers of Dasamantapur block in Koraput district in the last two days. The animals entered the fields of Ghasi Khosla of Gumma, Naka Bisoyi of Makakhand, Chino Muduli, Dhoba Muduli and Mukund Muduli of Girli after destroying the paddy fields at Tarlaghat, Mandra Gaon on Friday night. On Saturday, the elephants were seen in the mountains near Jamur in the same block. The elephants had also spoiled the water in the ponds in several villages. DFO Atish Kumar Behera promised all help to villagers. He also promised them to get compensation of Rs.1,000 per acre of damaged crop after getting an assessment report from revenue officials.
