Farmers given away awards

Swami Naika stood first by reaping a harvest of 88.27 quintals of paddy a hectare

MYSORE: Five farmers from different parts of Mysore district were felicitated by the Department of Agriculture for reaping a high yield of crop, on Saturday.

Swami Naika of Hosaramanahalli in Hunsur taluk stood first in the district for 2005-06 by reaping a harvest of 88.27 quintals of paddy a hectare in the kharif crop. He was the only person chosen for the award for his performance during 2005-06.

The department also selected three farmers for registering a high yield during 2004-05.

Tukaram, a farmer from Naganahalli in Mysore taluk, was given away the first prize for harvesting 86.19 quintals of paddy a hectare for the kharif crop in 2004-05. The second prize for the period went to B. Revanna, a farmer from Rangasamudra village in T. Narsipur taluk. He grew 85.88 quintals of paddy a hectare for the kharif crop of 2004-05.

Kempamma, a farmer from Naganahalli in Mysore taluk, stood third by growing 84.94 quintals of paddy a hectare during 2004-05.

K.B. Nagabhushana was the only person to secure an award in the field of sericulture. Sericulturist Nagabhushana was felicitated for using advanced technology in the field.

Giving away the awards, Minister in-charge of Mysore district D.T. Jayakumar called upon the farmers to deploy advanced agricultural practices to increase yield.
