LONG WAIT: People waiting in front of ticket counters at Mangalore Railway Station on Saturday. Photo: R. Eswarraj
MANGALORE: People had to stand in long queues in front of ticket counters at the city railway station here on Saturday following the breakdown of the computerised ticket booking system of Southern Railways. Authorities had to issue the tickets manually. Passengers had to wait for several hours to get the tickets. Many of them could not obtain the tickets in time to board trains. There was heavy rush at the station owing to the holiday season. Passengers heading to the southern States were affected by the failure of the ticketing system, sources in the Railways said. They said that most passengers missed trains bound to Kerala. Janardhan, station manager, told The Hindu that the computerised ticket booking system lines had failed at around 11 a.m. He said that he was not sure about when the lines would be restored.
