Three farmers attempt suicide
Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD:
Three farmers attempted suicide here on Saturday when Government officials tried to begin work relating to a link road from Shamshabad to the proposed international airport.
While the condition of one farmer Sadashiva Reddy was critical, police took other two farmers into custody before they could open the pesticide bottles they were carrying.
Some locals owned land admeasuring 708 acres in Shamshabad village through which the link road was being laid.
The revenue officials, with police protection, descended at local Gubbadikancha area to begin road laying work but were obstructed by the landowners.
Sadashiva Reddy and Sudhakar Reddy, both brothers and Tirupati Reddy holding pesticide bottles rushed to the officials saying they would kill themselves if the Government failed to take over land without paying adequate compensation.
