Contract killers hired, say police

  • Victim thrashes borrower for defaulting
  • Borrower `confesses' to his deed in order to evade repayment

HYDERABAD: A money borrower who was beaten with a chappal in public for not paying the debt, got his friend who loaned him Rs 2.5 lakhs, murdered by hired assassins in Nacharam recently, according to police investigations.

The borrower, R. Srinivasulu and the three alleged contract killers have been arrested on charges of killing Sriram Venkatesh on December 15 in Nacharam locality in full public view.

Police said the victim had beaten up Srinivasulu for defaulting on loan repayment. The borrower felt insulted and wanted to take revenge and hired three persons hailing from Anantapur to kill him, Nacharam Sub-Inspector B. Janaiah told reporters here.

When Venkatesh was at a roadside eatery in Nacharam, two assailants came on a motorcycle and attacked him with knives and sickles. A third person joined the duo later and they sped away on the bike.

    Probe

The police piecing information together learnt that the victim used to run a chit fund business from home. Documents suggesting that he loaned Rs. 2.5 lakhs to Srinivasulu were also found as evidence. During interrogation, Srinivasulu admitted to having got Venkatesh murdered in a pique. The SI said that Srinivasulu secured another Rs. 2 lakhs loan from the victim's parents without the latter's knowledge. "He thought the entire Rs. 4.5 lakhs amount could be evaded if Venkatesh was eliminated," Mr. Janaiah explained. Alleged hired assassins K. Ravindra, P.V. Anjaiah and Boya Suryanarayana, all hailing from Anantapur were rounded up based on Srinivaulu's confession.
