LAHORE: Pakistan and India on Saturday took an important step forward in talks over the disputed Sri Creek by agreeing to the modalities of a joint survey of the narrow strip of water between the countries in Rann of Kutch. A statement at the end of the two-day talks in Rawalpindi said the two sides would begin the joint survey of the the 96 km-long creek on January 15, 2007. According to the statement, the two sides also held "useful discussions" on options to delimit the maritime boundary and "agreed to verify the outermost points of coastlines of both countries during the joint survey with regards to the equidistance method." The Indian delegation was led by Rear Admiral B.R. Rao, chief naval hydropgrapher, and the Pakistani side was led by Surveyor-General of Pakistan, Major-General Jamil ur Rehman Afridi.
