`Development linked to literacy'

GUNTUR: Development of our country is dependent on literacy of children in rural areas, which must be achieved at all costs, Governor Rameshwar Thakur has said.

Participating in a programme to launch `Bala Bata' programme - National Movement to Educate and Empower Dalit Children, on Saturday, he lauded the efforts of Community and Rural Development Society. The Government was doing its best to promote better living conditions among people in rural areas through various programmes being implemented by District Rural Development Agency and if the NGOs also chip in with their effort, creating a literate society was possible.

Minister for Cooperation Kanna Lakshmi Narayana, district collector G. Jayalakshmi, Narsaraopet MLA Kasu Krishna Reddy and joint collector Rahul Bojja along with IGP welcomed the Governor on his arrival.
