HYDERABAD: The Rajendranagar police on Saturday arrested 18 students of Acharya N.G. Ranga Agricultural University on charge of indulging in group clash on the university premises. While three other students are absconding, all the arrested students were remanded in judicial custody. Rajendranagar police Inspector Ch. Srinivas said first year students of the two groups living in D hostel clashed with one another after Friday midnight. "Petty issues like some students preferring to watch Hindi channels on television in the hostel room and others in favour of local Telugu channels triggered the clashes," he explained.
Allegations of passing lewd comments on girl students added to the rifts between the two groups of students. "Students of the two groups entered into arguments over a petty matter after midnight, attacked one another and damaged hostel furniture also," the Inspector explained. Cases booked
Cases were booked against the students under sections 147, 148 and 324 of the Indian Penal Code and section 3 of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act.
