Minister's assurance to CCCI

Staff Reporter

KOZHIKODE: Finance Minister T.M. Thomas Isaac has assured a delegation of the Calicut Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) that a meeting will be called of the persons concerned on January 18 to discuss the problems being faced by traders from Malabar in the implementation of Value Added Tax and related matters.

The Minister appealed to the delegation to cooperate with the authorities in implementing the VAT. He said the Government, traders and officials should to work with confidence and faith in each other.

He sought the assistance of organisations such as the CCCI in enabling the Government to increase its revenue. Mr. Isaac said the setting up of a Trade Ministry was under the active consideration of the Government.

The delegation suggested the introduction of a tax passbook, and a uniform tax rate for all States so that consumers from the State would not go to the neighbouring States to buy goods.
