CHENNAI : Orient Longman launched its English Language Teaching (ELT) series for Indian school children from classes 1-8 in Chennai today. Called `The Golden Gate', it consists of readers and `accuracy books' workbooks that deal with grammar, pronunciation, spelling and punctuation. It follows the popular `Gulmohar' series, one of the first produced specifically for the Indian student about 30 years ago. Director, Indo-Korean Cultural Centre, Rathi Jafer presented the first set of copies to R. Amritavalli, who edited the series along with M.L. Tickoo. Both Dr. Amritavalli and Dr. Tickoo are advisors to NCERT. The series has already been launched in Delhi, Kolkata and Hyderabad. Raj Mani, senior vice president (schools), Orient Longman said that the books were well received among all the schools approached. "We have got very positive feedback. The great thing about this series is that it is valid across all boards, and not constrained by the syllabus," he said. Publisher, ELT Schools, Orient Longman, Vani Vasudevan, said that the books contain thoroughly researched concepts, with an eye on classroom reality. "There is an emphasis on content, so the students learn more than just the language," she said. It has been especially compiled for the Indian student and carries stories by Indian authors.
