BIJAPUR: Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha K. Rehman Khan on Saturday said he would pressure the Centre to take steps to translate Persian manuscripts to Indian languages. Speaking at the valedictory function of the three-day seminar on "Art, architecture and literature of Adil Shahi Era" here, Mr. Khan said Persian manuscripts were available in various centres including Bijapur. They were rich in information and must be translated for wider use and there was need to preserve them for future generations. Dr. Muhammad Isa Waley of the British Library, London, said his library had preserved 17 manuscripts of Adil Shahi era obtained from Bijapur. Most of these manuscripts were in Persian and contained details about local art and culture, and astronomy. S.A. Punekar, chairman of SECAB association, which organised the seminar in association with the All-India Persian Teachers' Association said there was a need to preserve Persian manuscripts that were reportedly dumped in the basement of a museum on the Gol Gumbaz compound here.
