BIJAPUR: Minister for Animal Husbandry Revu Naik Belamagi said here on Sunday that the State Government was trying to extend the Union Government-sponsored domestic animal insurance scheme to all districts in Karnataka. Speaking to presspersons, the Minister said at present the scheme was in force only in four districts, including Gulbarga. He said he requested Union Agriculture Minister Sharad Pawar to extend the benefit to other districts and the latter is said to have promised to consider the request. On the shortage of staff in the department, Mr. Belamagi said 133 veterinary doctors were appointed recently and the Karnataka Public Service Commission had commenced the process of recruiting 41 more veterinary doctors. All key posts especially those of doctors would not be left vacant, he added. He said there was no scarcity of fodder in the State, and not much shortage was expected in the summer months. However, an action plan with an outlay of Rs. 42 crore had been prepared to see that cattle did not face shortage of feed. To a question, he said there was no outbreak of any disease. However, there was adequate stock of medicines. Chief Executive Officer of the Zilla Panchayat Rajeev Ranjan and Deputy Director, Animal Husbandry, S.G. Konapur were present.
