B.Tech. course for hearing impaired

Six-year programme to be offered in three modules To be offered in three modules


  • Students with a X Standard pass will be admitted
  • Last date for submitting applications is December 31

    CHENNAI: The Kalasalingam University in Virudhunagar district will start an integrated B.Tech programme for the hearing impaired from the coming academic year, according to University vice-chancellor C. Thangaraj.

    Speaking to reporters here recently, Dr. Thangaraj said students with a X Standard pass would be admitted to the six-year integrated programme.

    The courses offered included Computer Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering. Students completing their X Standard in April 2007 were also eligible for admission.

    The courses would be offered in three modules - a preparatory module covering the Plus Two level, a foundation module (English medium) covering diploma level subjects and an advanced module (English medium) in the selected branch of study, he said.

    Those who wished to complete the foundation level and did not want to go further to the next level could opt for a diploma certificate in the concerned branch of study.

    Dr. Thangaraj said the University had proposed to admit 30 students who would get cent per cent fee concession, including boarding and lodging. Another 30 would get 50 per cent fee concession with boarding and lodging facilities.

    The maximum age limit for admission had been fixed at 20 years on June 1, 2007, Dr. Thangaraj said.

    Last date

    The last date for submitting applications was December 31, 2006.

    Application forms could be obtained free of cost in person or by sending a self-addressed envelope by affixing a stamp to the value of Rs.10 and sent to the Vice Chancellor, Kalasalingam University, Anand Nagar, Krishnankoil, Srivilliputhur Taluk, Virudhunagar 626190.
