HYDERABAD: The following transfers and postings of IPS officers were notified:

Tarun Joshi, Assault Commander, Grey Hounds, Hyderabad, is transferred and posted as Assistant Superintendent of Police, Godavarikhani.

Navin Gulai, Assault commander, Grey Hounds, is transferred and posted as Assistant Superintendent of Police, Mulugu and Kanthi Rana Tata, Assault Commander, Grey Hounds, is transferred and posted as Assistant Superintendent of Police, Narsipatnam, according to an official release. — Staff Reporter

Team for science fest

Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh State Council of Science and Technology will take a 16-member delegation of students and teachers from various districts to participate in the National Children's Science Congress at Gangtok, Sikkim from December 27. The projects to be displayed at the five-day event at Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology, Majithar, Gangtok, were selected in a State level event held in November at Kurnool. — Staff Reporter

Farmer ends life

KURNOOL: A farmer, Parasuramudu, 37, committed suicide by consuming pesticide at Yerukalacheruvu in Kurnool on Sunday. Crop failure is said to be reason for the extreme step. — Special Correspondent

BCs' plea on quota

HYDERABAD: Andhra Pradesh Backward Classes Employees' Welfare Association has demanded that the Central Government take steps to provide reservations in promotions for BC staff working in the State and Central Governments, by amending the Constitution. The executive of the association which met here on Sunday wanted a Bill to be tabled in Parliament. The executive demanded that the Centre allocate 10 per cent of the 11th Plan funds to improve the educational qualifications of BCs and create 2.5 lakh jobs. — Special Correspondent

Leopard run over

KADAPA: A leopard was run over by a bus near Dondlopalle bus stop in Vontimitta mandal on Saturday night.Forest Range Officer Shaik Shah Vali and police shifted the carcass to the veterinary hospital at Kadapa for post-mortem, police said. — Staff Reporter

Girijan panel's meet

HYDERABAD: Issues affecting tribals will be discussed at each of the third meeting of the Girijana Sangham's State Committee beginning on January 3 at Rajahmundry and January 7 at Mahabubabad (Warangal). While the Rajahmundry meet will be for the agency areas, the Mahabubabad conference will cover the plains. Rallies and public meetings will be organised to mark the inaugural sessions, M.Babu Rao, MP and president of the sangham, said in a press release issued here. — Special Correspondent

Youth drowned

NIZAMABAD: Rapani Sreedhar, 23, was drowned in Phulong stream outside the district headquarter town on Sunday, according to Makloor police. A resident of Mubaraknagar the victim, along with four friends, had gone for a swim.

The body was fished out and would be handed over to relatives after post-mortem examination, Assistant Sub-Inspector, Anjaneyulu said. — Staff Reporter
