HYDERABAD: The Telugu Desam Party activists will lay siege to electricity sub-stations across the State on December 27 and 28, demanding nine-hour uninterrupted power supply for agricultural operations. Announcing this at a press conference here on Sunday, senior TDP leaders C.Ramachandraiah and K.Subbarayudu said the Government's short-sighted policy and lack of integrated planning had led to the present power crisis, forcing agitation by farmers. The Srisailam hydel station was not being operated to full capacity though it was designed for power generation. Faulting the Government for failing to get an additional 120 MW from the National Grid, they said bio-mass plants should be allowed to operate to full capacity by removing 80 per cent cap on the plant load factor. Such measures would enable generation of 100 MW. Besides, industries should be permitted to generate captive power to tide over the crisis.
Poll promises
Though the Congress had made a pre-election promise of 12-hour power supply, not even seven hours of supply was being provided in one spell for agricultural operations, they stated.
