Strained relations improving

AHMEDABAD: The strained relations between the Bharatiya Janata party and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad seem to be improving after the BJP revived the Ram temple issue.

The VHP has welcomed the BJP's commitment for the temple as expressed by its president Rajnath Singh at the party's national council meeting in Lucknow.

`BJP back on track'

Addressing a "Virat Hindu Sammelan" in Surat on Sunday, VHP international general secretary Pravin Togadia thanked Mr. Singh for his party's reiteration to the commitment for the Ram temple and said it was good that the "derailed BJP" was coming back to its "original track."

"Option" to Congress

He, however, did not commit the VHP's support to the BJP if it stuck to the Ram temple issue but instead offered an "option" to the Congress.

He advised the Congress also to extend its support to the cause and help construct the Ram temple in Ayodhya through legislation in Parliament. "If both the BJP and the Congress pick up the saffron flag, the VHP will support both the parties," Dr. Togadia said.
