Moral education In the good old days, parents or grandparents used to tell their children stories from the Ramayana and Mahabharata at bedtime or stories with capsuled moral messages, to inculcate good qualities in them. Two decades ago, the extracts or our epics used to be part of the school syllabus and college curriculum and the students evinced great interest in these stories. Nowadays, the students are not exposed to such stories, which exhibit different phases of human life. The new generations are not to blame for lack of knowledge about the great epics and puranas. It is the successive Governments, which have failed to introduce such topics in the syllabi. It is high time the Government and parents take concrete steps to see that the young generation acquires proper moral education . Ch. Srisailam, Huzurabad Skewed priorities When all our efforts are being directed towards social welfare and achievement of better economic conditions, entertainment in excess mars our objectives. Motilal Nehru gifted his wealth to his son, Jawaharlal Nehru, one of the architects of modern India, to use it for the nation. As a model father, he disproved the theory of Oliver Goldsmith who said "Where wealth accumulates men decay.'' P. Satyanarayana, Hanamkonda
