HASSAN: The Vidya Nagar area in Hassan was flooded with people on Saturday evening. More than 5,000 people gathered to witness the janapada jaatre that was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner Ashwathanarayana Gowda in the presence of MLA H.S. Prakash and Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer F.R. Jamdaar. Mr. Prakash said folklore inspired people. In the olden days "harikatha shravana" (mythology stories) were very popular but with the advent of orchestra, its popularity waned. It was Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy who revived folklore and folklore festivals are being held regularly. S.M. Anand, MLC, said through folklore one could visualise rural life.
