BELLARY: The State Government recently released Rs. 15 crore, its share, to the South Western Railway (SWR) for construction of rail overbridges (ROBs) and rail underbridges (RUBs) in the State. Announcing this to presspersons here on Saturday, B. Sriramulu, Minister for Tourism, Textiles and Infrastructure Development, said the amount of Rs.15 crore was in addition to Rs. 25 crore, which had been released. According to him, in response to a communication from the Chief Administrative Officer (Construction) SWR requesting Rs. 30 crore for the construction of the bridges and other projects in the State for 2006-07. The State Government had decided on December 18 to release Rs. 15 crore for the purpose.
Priority works
Two ROBs proposed for Bellary at the Satyanarayan pet and Sudha cross railway gates, were among the 18 priority ROBs/RUBs to be taken up in 2006-07, he said. Mr. Sriramulu said the State Government had released Rs. 35 crore for the Kottur-Harihar rail line. About developing Bellary airport, he said that it needed funds to the tune of Rs. 20 crore and the Government was ready to release the amount provided there was a demand from the public. He said the Government had released Rs. 6.2 crore for acquisition of 370 acres of land for upgrading the Belgaum airport.
