CELEBRATION TIME: The devout saying prayers at the Telugu Union Baptists Church on the eve of Christmas in Berhampur on Sunday.
BHUBANESWAR: Orissa is all set to celebrate Christmas on Monday with different programmes being organised in churches across the State. All churches in the capital city wore a new look with a fresh coat of paint and well-decorated Christmas trees welcoming the visitors. Outside the churches, various programmes were being organised by different institutions to mark the day. In the temple town of Puri, a sand sculpture of Santa Claus created by well-known sand artist Sudarshan Patnaik attracted a large number of tourists on Sunday afternoon. Mr. Patnaik's sculpture of Santa Claus, created on the sandy beaches with the help of students of his Golden Sand Art School, would be on display for a couple of days. Different churches in the city and other parts of the State organised prayer sessions on Sunday. These sessions were addressed by senior preachers invited from far off places. Rev. George Cherian, a prominent preacher from Kerala, addressed the gathering at the Church of Christ in Bhubaneswar on Sunday afternoon. He would also address a similar gathering on Monday.
