Tricycles, artificial limbs distributed

NEW DELHI: Tarun Mitra Parishad distributed tricycles, wheelchairs, artificial limbs, sewing machines and books to needy persons at a function here on Sunday. As many as 145 meritorious students were also awarded scholarships.

Delhi Finance Minister Ashok Walia, who was the chief guest, appreciated the work being done by the Parishad since 1975. He also honoured some well-known social activists on the occasion. The function concluded with a "bhakti sangeet'' programme.

Programme to pay homage to Ghalib

NEW DELHI: An evening of multi-dimensional performances commemorating the life and works of Mirza Ghalib has been planned. This Tuesday, a candle light procession from Town Hall in Chandni Chowk will be taken out to Ghalib's Haveli at Gali Qasim Jaan Balliram at 5-30 p.m. Among others, Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit and Union Minister Kapil Sibal are expected to pay homage to Ghalib. There would also be ghazals by Imran Khan and poetry recitation by Ahmed Faraz.

Campus recruitment at IMT Ghaziabad

NEW DELHI: The campus recruitment process at IMT Ghaziabad was held this past week. Over a 100 companies participated. The companies were vying to recruit 253 students from the various courses. At the end of the process, a total of 336 offers were made by 71 companies. The placement process also saw many first time recruiters.

"This year even with the increased batch size, we achieved substantially higher compensation packages and offers from world renowned brands for our students," said Prof. Nilanjan Chattopadhyay, Chairman Placements, IMT Ghaziabad.

National School Games inaugurated

NEW DELHI: Delhi Sport Minister Arvinder Singh Lovely inaugurated the 52nd National School Games at Chatrasaal Stadium here over the weekend. These games will end on December 28. Nearly 5,000 players from across the country are participating in these games. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Lovely said that for the past many years the Government has been organising the Games in Delhi quite successfully. Last year, Delhi school students won 239 gold medals, 245 silver medals, 147 bronze medals in National School Games. Delhi also won overall championship.In view of the Commonwealth Games in 2010, the Government would develop Delhi into a sports city and promote sports activities among the students, he added.
