COIMBATORE: The Coimbatore Medical College and Hospital (CMCH) and the Coimbatore Corporation conducted on Sunday a medical camp for the people of the low-income group at the Corporation Girls' High School at Puliyakulam in the city.

CMCH sources said 40 doctors, 60 nursing students and electro cardiogram technicians took part in the camp in which over 400 people, including women and children were screened.

Rural Industries Minister Pongalur N. Palanisamy inaugurated the camp in the presence of Mayor R. Venkatachalam, CMCH Dean T.P. Kalaniti and City Health Officer P. Thangaraj. It was held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The sources said that medicines and injections were provided free of cost.

A couple of persons who suffered from dehydration were provided with intravenous fluids. A nine-year-old boy was diagnosed with ventricular septal defect, a congenital heart problem. The boy was referred for further treatment to the CMCH.

The sources said that no symptoms of chikungunya or dengue were detected in the fever cases that came to the camp. These were only cases of viral fever. Some others had symptoms of respiratory infection. They were provided with medicines.
