Let experts decide on IIT venue

Location of a prestigious institution like IIT should be decided by qualified technical personnel and should not be left to politician's preference ( The Hindu : 18th December). Basar is off Nizamabad which itself is 100 miles1 away from Hyderabad and connected both by rail and road towards Nanded. During heavy rain and floods, Basar is cut off for railway journey as it is connected by a bridge from Nizamabad side. Why should national institution like IIT be set up in such an obscure place!

Poor customer service

A fortnight ago I had a very unpleasant experience at a national bank. I am a senior citizen, aged 81 years. I felt an urge to go to the toilet. I found no toilet on the customer side, so I headed for the toilet on the bank staff side. Two of the bank employees told me that I can't use the toilet. When I tried to explain my predicament, they asked me not to argue and waste their time!. I was told that they will permit me only this time and should not come again.

Farce of SCB elections

The elections of the Secunderabad Cantonment Board after a lapse of nine years sound comical if not ridiculous. With all fanfare the notice of the elections was announced well in advance.

The candidates, lettered and unlettered contested and each spent lakhs of rupees with his own ambitions.

The entire functioning of the Board came to a grinding halt for months at a stretch.

Only after four months in office the Board has been declared void. It looks as though it is all premeditated.
