Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD:
Sleuths of the Customs and Excise Department on Sunday seized Scotch whisky bottles worth Rs. 3 lakhs from a person C.R. Choudhary who was trying to sell them at Rs. 1,800 a bottle while the market rate was pegged at Rs. 6,000.
Assistant Commissioner (Enforcement) T. Prasad told mediapersons here that a few bottles of Scotch were stashed away in a shop at Sagar Plaza in Abids while the rest of the contraband was seized from Racer Car Accessories showroom located on the Ministers' Road.
This was a part of the special drive launched in the wake of the approaching New Year celebrations when imported liquor is in demand.
Officials said that they had caught and booked cases against employees of Raja Rajeshwari Gardens, Secunderabad, for selling Defence liquor and holding a liquor party without permission.
