Another consumer court sought

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: The Confederation of Andhra Pradesh Consumers' Organisations (CAPCO) has asked the National Consumer Redressal Commission to establish a second State Consumer Dispute Redressal Court in Hyderabad to tackle the increasing number of pending cases in consumer courts.

Speaking to reporters here on Sunday on the occasion of National Consumer Day, CAPCO Chairman D.N. Kishore Gupta said that out of 1,59,404 cases filed in consumer courts since their inception in the State, only 27,115 cases were cleared within the stipulated time of 90 days. There were still 5,190 cases pending in consumer courts across the State and 2,758 cases with the State Commission and the delay in clearing the cases could hamper the interests of consumers, he said. He said plans were afoot to conduct a diploma course in consumer Laws for eighth, ninth and 10th class students from next month free of cost.
