HYDERABAD: In true filmy style, a young couple threatened to commit suicide by jumping from a five-storied building, under construction, at Miyapur on Sunday.

The one-hour drama ended on a happy note after the police diverted their attention and caught hold of them.

Ch. Sairam (20) and Zareena (18) from Illandu in Khammam district came to the city on Saturday night. They boarded a bus at Central bus station in Gowliguda to Miyapur at 7 a.m. to meet Sairam's friend, seeking his support for their marriage.

When his friend refused to help them, Sairam and Zareena went to the building and threatened to end their lives.

Hundreds of residents and motorists gathered in front of the building and requested them not to take any hasty action. When they refused to heed to their repeated pleas, the police urged some residents to keep them engaged in conversation even as Assistant Sub-Inspector K. Jukka Reddy and home guards went to the fifth floor and caught them.
