HYDERABAD: It was a rare congruence of celebrities from different walks of life when the All-India Conference of Intellectuals felicitated them at a function at Indira Priyadarshni indoor hall on Sunday. When Governor Rameshwar Thakur honoured tennis sensation Sania Mirza and chess prodigy Koneru Humpy, both gold medallists in the recent Doha Asian Games, they got the biggest round of applause. The duo enjoyed the unique manner in which the felicitations were organised - the recipients were presented with colourful `pagdis' along with a memento, shawl and citation. They were also presented with the title of `Proud daughter of the soil.' Sania Mirza said it took a long and arduous battle to reach where she was today and it was felicitations like these, which continue to inspire her to aim bigger. "It was a great experience to be in the company of such luminaries. This increases my responsibility to live up everyone's expectations," says Humpy. Eminent personalities from various fields like legal luminary K. Srinivasan Kurup, DGP Swaranjit Sen, IAS officer A.K. Parida, scientist Madhavan Nair, forensic expert K.P.C. Gandhi and a host of others were felicitated.
