CELEBRATING THE BIRTH: Christians in large numbers attending a midnight mass at St. Mary's Church in Secunderabad on Sunday to usher in Christmas. - Photo: Mohd. Yousuf
HYDERABAD: Braving the winter chill, Christians flocked to churches in large numbers to usher in Christmas here on Sunday night. Carols were sung and midnight mass was held at the places of worship which were specially decorated for the festive occasion. As the bells chimed past midnight, the festive spirit which pervaded the city throughout the day peaked and the devout got busy with prayers. Large congregations were witnessed for the Holy Mass at St. Mary's Church in Secunderabad, Baptist Church, Narayanguda, and St. Andrew's Church at Marredpally. Others, too, drew impressive congregations and special messages were delivered by community leaders. Across the city, malls, hotels and shopping arcades were tastefully decorated and attracted crowds all through the day. Bakeries did a roaring business and special festive cuisine offered by restaurants also saw good patronage.
