Three antique idols seized, one held

NEW DELHI: Three antique idols of Lord Mahavira worth crores of rupees have been seized by the police from North West Delhi. One man has been arrested in this connection.

The idols -- said to be nearly 600-700 years old -- were seized from Shalimar Bagh on Saturday evening. Narender Singh, hailing from neighbouring Uttar Pradesh, has been arrested for allegedly being in possession of the idols.

Acting on a tip-off that Narender (42) would deliver the three idols to someone in Shalimar Bagh, a police team conducted a raid and arrested him with the three idols.

During interrogation, Narender allegedly disclosed that the idols were given to him by Dhruv Kumar Gupta, Than Singh and Ranjeet Singh -- all residents of U.P. -- to sell them for a high price in Delhi.

Narender is a resident of Jasrajpur village in Mainpuri district of UP, the police said.

Three arrested on murder charge

NEW DELHI: Three men, involved in about a dozen cases, have been arrested by the police for allegedly killing a seven-year-old boy about ten days ago. Business rivalry with the boy's father, Ram Kumar Singh, was said to be the motive for the alleged kidnapping-cum-murder.

The accused -- Ashok Singh, Jag Narain and Amit Kumar -- are from Uttar Pradesh. Ashok is said to be involved in several cases. According to police, the men kidnapped Shiva on December 13 and later allegedly killed him.

One held for auto theft

NEW DELHI: With the arrest of one person, the police on Sunday claimed to have solved two cases of motor vehicles' theft reported in the Capital.

Mohammad Tahir, aged 20 years, was arrested from Mansarover Park here on Saturday during a vehicle-checking drive. It was found that the motorcycle he was driving was a stolen one.

During interrogation, Tahir -- a resident of Bijnour district in Uttar Pradesh -- revealed that he was working as a labourer and in order to earn some quick money, he took to stealing motor vehicles, the police said.

One more bike was recovered at his instance, the police said.

"Swami Shardanand Balidan Divas"

NEW DELHI: A "Shobha Yatra" will be taken out here today to commemorate "Swami Shardanand Balidan Divas". It will start from Swami Shardanand Balidan Bhawan at 10 a.m. and culminate at Parade Ground around noon.

According to the Delhi traffic police, normal flow of traffic in some Walled City areas will be affected and arrangements have been made to facilitate the movement of the procession and other vehicles.

People have been advised to plan their journey in advance and avoid taking the route of the procession.

The following routes are likely to get affected: Naya Bazar Road; Khari Baoli Road; Ajmeri Gate Road; Sita Ram Bazar Road; Chandni Chowk; Subhash Marg; S.P. Mukherji Marg and Church Mission Road.
