Symposium

Energy and Wetlands Research Group, Centre for Ecological Sciences, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), will conduct a three-day symposium on "Environmental Education and Ecosystem Conservation" from December 28 at Rustom Choksi Hall, IISc campus. The symposium aims at creating awareness about conservation of ecosystem among school students, teachers and public. Various papers on issues such as restoration of lakes, conservation of rivers, forests and wildlife and solid waste management will be presented. Details can be had on Ph: 22933099, 22932786.

`Haasyotsava'

Koravanji-Aparanji Trust will organise "Haasyotsava", a humour festival, at HN Kalakshetra in Jayanagar from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday. This event, which is being organised for the 12th year, is in memory of T. Sunandamma, a humour writer. Several books on humour will be released and a humour quiz will also be conducted. Coaching classes

The Social Welfare Department of Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BMP) will conduct coaching classes for candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and other minority communities who have applied for the Karnataka Administrative Service (KAS) preliminary examinations to be conducted by the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC). Eligible candidates can apply before December 30 with caste certificate, proof of residence to show that they reside within BMP limits and income certificate. The application can be obtained from the office of the Social Welfare Officer, BMP head office, NR Square.

Matrimonial meet

Akhila Bharatha Veerashaiva Vivaha Sahayaka Mandali will organise a matrimonial meet of Veerashaiva brides and bridegrooms on December 31 at 2 p.m. at the Jayadeva Hostel Shopping Complex on the 5th Main in Gandhinagar. Details can be had on Ph: 22269237.

Workshop

Indian Council for Cultural Relations and British Library will organise a creative workshop for children aged between 6 and 16 till December 30 at British Library, Kasturba Road. Entry is by registration on first-come-first-served basis. Call Ph: 22489220 for details.

Extended

The Government has extended the validity of the computerised ration cards issued in Bangalore region till the end of 2007 or till the existing cards are exchanged for new ones. The computerised cards were issued with a validity of five years, which ends on December 31, this year.
