Name airport after Visvesvaraya

Sir, — It will be appropriate for the new international airport near Bangalore to be named as the "Bharat Ratna Sir M. Visvesvaraya International Airport". Sir Visvesvaraya was a great engineer and administrator. He was responsible for building many power and irrigation projects and has contributed significantly to the economy of the State. Future generations will respect and admire this great man.

Open rail line to passenger trains

Sir, — The construction of the broad gauge rail line between Mangalore and Sakleshpur has been completed but it has not been opened to passengers owing to, perhaps, the lobby of private transport operators. The State Government should instruct the Railways to start the passenger service between Mangalore and Bangalore.

Defacing signboards

Sir, — The Bangalore Mahanagara Palike names most new circles and streets after eminent persons. The authorities unveil a plaque with great fanfare in the presence of corporators and MLAs. However, after a few days, the same plaque is found covered with posters and publicity material. Is this not disrespectful to the personalities after whom the street or circle is named? Sometimes these plaques and signboards are demolished to widen roads. The authorities should take action against those who stick posters on plaques and signboards.
