WRECKAGE: The mangled remains of a jeep that collided with a bus at Thalekkara, near Kondotty in Malappuram district, on Monday afternoon.
The deceased were identified as Naseem, 18 (son of Thazheparamban Kunhalikutty); Mohammed Shameer, 18 (son of Pookodan Moideen Kutty); Abdul Raheem, 18 (son of Vattakkandam Mohammed Musliar); Shuhaib, 13 (son of Thazheparamban Kunhalikutty); and Shafeeque, 13 (son of Pookodan Kabeer). Raheem was at the wheel when the accident took place at 2.45 p.m. The jeep collided head-on with the bus bound for Kalikavu from Kozhikode while trying to overtake a mini-bus. The jeep was torn to pieces in the crash. Some of the passengers in the jeep were thrown away in bits and parts in the impact of the crash . The injured were rushed to Medical College Hospital, Kozhikode. They were identified as Mohammed Ashraf, 18; Sharafuddin, 19; Salahuddin, 17; Anas, 16; Mohammed Fazil, Shuhail, Khaleel, and Rashid. The victims were attending the marriage of Shihab, son of Thazheparamban Moideenkutty belonging to Mongam. They were accompanying the bridegroom to the bride's house at Ayikkarapadi. The accident took place at the curve in front of Thalekkara Juma Masjid. Dozens of motorists have lost their lives in accidents at this curve. Inspector General M.N. Krishnamoorthy, District Superintendent of Police Tarun Kumar and Additional District Magistrate K.J. Joseph inspected the accident spot.
